Cactus League College Basketball for Windows

This article was written before Windows XP was released. We are unaware of any of these problems on computers running Windows XP or later.

Like every other computer program, Cactus League College Basketball For Windows has "Minimum System Requirements." It is the minimum hardware/software/operating system/memory that is required for a computer to be able to play the game. Cactus League games' minimum requirements include just about any computer made in the past several years that can run Windows.

However, there have been some reports of problems with Cactus League College Basketball For Windows running on systems that do not meet the minimum requirements. If you attempt to run the game on a computer that does not meet the requirements you may experience one, or more, of these:

Symptoms

  • Teams, conferences, or players appear to be "missing"

  • System error messages

  • System freezes

  • Screens don't look right

  • Inconsistent computer performance

In many cases, you can "tweak" your system to free up additional memory:

Possible Solutions

  • Remove "background programs" that are not necessary. Many programs these days install all or part of their program "in the background." That is, the program is loaded into memory every time you start your computer, even if you are not running that program. In most cases, the user doesn't even know it, and everything works fine. But, these programs "eat up" valuable memory. Removing these programs can sometimes "put you over the top" and put your computer into the minimum system requirements, so you can run the game.

  • Defrag your hard disk. We have had one report that defragmenting the computer's hard disk solved the problem. Refer to your Windows Help file for instructions.

  • Some anti-virus programs (particularly Norton products, which are notorious for causing more problems than they solve), can create system problems. Try unloading them.

  • If you have problems updating your game with the AutoGame Update Module, your firewall may be preventing data from reaching your computer or our server. Refer to your firewall's documentation and adjust the settings as necessary.

  • Add memory. Obviously, adding memory to your system will increase the amount of available memory. Contact your computer's manufacturer for specifics.

To find out how much available memory your computer has, run "System Information," a program that is included with Windows. You can access this program through your "Start" button, or through the "About" dialog of every Cactus League College Basketball For Windows module. With a Cactus League College Basketball For Windows module's main screen displayed, click the "Help" menu item, then click "About Cactus League College Basketball," then "System Information." You may be asked to send your System Information to Cactus.
